The BAG Active Healthy and Happy project will create a virtual Healthy Living Centre within the Greater Bargoed area specifically targeting people on low income, older people and people with mental health issues. A Development Officer will be appointed to identify existing services and develop new healthy living activities in partnership with other organisations, both statutory and voluntary. The project will be shaped by the results of a community consultation whereby the community will identify activities, and from this information, the aim will be to look at similar healthy living activities that have succeeded in other areas and ‘ buy’ those activities into Greater Bargoed. This will be achieved by working with various organisations such as Ramblers Association, Centre for Help and Advice for the Disabled (CHAD), Health Alliance, Countryside Wales, and Sports Development etc. All potential activities will aim to • Provide affordable and accessible activities on the doorstep that are led by familiar established groups with a friendly face. • Volunteering and training opportunities for the community and the service users with the aim of building people’s confidence and capacities. Project Activities: A community consultation was held over a period of a month to identify what types of outdoor activities would appeal to the community within our target groups. From this consultation 4 activities were highlighted by the community, these were: Walking, Cycling, Tai Chi / Yoga and Gardening. The aim now, once a Development officer is in post, will be to look at ways of providing these activities in partnership with other agencies and organisations. These will include, Rambles around the Bargoed Common, organised dog walks around the Country Park, guided walks, trim trails etc. Organised Bike rides through Bargoed Country Park trail, Tai Chi/ Pilates/ Yoga to be held in Bargoed Park. Green Gyms within the local allotments in and around Greater Bargoed. However, an in depth consultation will be held within the coming months to shape these activities around the needs of our community. Local Partners: The Bargoed Mentro Allan Partnership all come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Our partners who will steer the project forward with us consists of CCBC Leisure services, CCBC Countryside, Social Services, Local Health Board, Caerphilly Local Public Health Team, Groundwork Caerphilly, Greater Bargoed Communities First Partnership Board and Bargoed YMCA.
