Local Projects > South West: Swansea
Project summary:
MABIS recently completed an independant evaluation on this project on behalf of the UK Community Sport Initiative and BLF. Please see copy of the case study report above. In year one the project will focus on 5 target groups; Young Carers Parent Carers BME Carers Carers of people with mental health problems Carers of the elderly Although we will not exclude any carer from accessing the project we will tailor our programme to suit the needs of these groups from the information we have gathered during the consultation. Within the activity based sessions we will include led community walks, increased access to cycle routes, a number of outdoor and adventurous activities. This is in addition to providing increased awareness and information about parks and open spaces and their facilities which was identified as a barrier to participation. The project also aims to improve the physical access to identified parks and open spaces through the provision of maps, way marked trails and orienteering courses, trim trails and cycle stands. Project activities: • Walking - some walks will be themed, e.g. bird watching, history, Dylan Thomas • Cycling – including specialist bikes • Taster sessions in other outdoor and adventurous activities e.g. surfing and climbing Local partners: The main partners working together to deliver this project are; City & County of Swansea National Public Health Service Swansea Carers Centre Swansea Council for Voluntary Services Crossroads Age Concern |
